Hello Again!

Filed under: Trips — olivia at 10:37 am on Thursday, February 22, 2007

Well i”m actually writing a post :) After having it pointed out to me by Jake, I realized that I truely have neglected this. Alot has been going on and this has kind of fallen off my radar. So inorder to catch you up I'’m going to do a recap.

In august I went on a spur of the moment kind of trip with Emily and Nick to the “Big Apple” (NYC), which was amazing by the way. We drove down and stopped to do some shopping at the outlets in Freeport, ME of course. I then spent 4 days in New York City with Emily before flying back home. I have only added some of the pictures under my pic tab, but all of them can be seen here:

http://www.olivialogan.com/newyork/

We did all the great tourist things you should do while in NYC. We went to the statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, top of the empire state building, Rockfeller center, central park, Tiffany’s, The Plaza, Museum of natural history, Ground zero etc. etc. I will write more detailed info later. What visit to New York City is complete without a broadway musical?? I went to see Chicago and it was amazing, we also went out for New York cheesecake afterward!

The day after I arrived home from NYC, we left on another trip with Ryan and Kara to Montreal to see the rogers cup, womens tennis and take in Montreal. It was great got to see some great tennis, the Biodome, the botancial gardens, museums, old Montreal, IMAX movie. I also got to meet up with Kristen and meet Roberto (her beau), she drove down to Montreal to meet up with us. It was a great little trip.

In October to weekend on a weekend getaway to North Conway, New Hampshire with Craig, Stephanie (Gregor too), Pat and Tara. We left early friday morning and stopped in Bangor and Freeport on the way down to do some shopping. We also stopped in portland so I could try on wedding dresses at David’s Bridal. We stayed at this amazing little bed and breakfast in North Conway “The Red Elephant”, which had a king size bed and a fireplace in our room. We drove up into the White mountains on saturday, did some more shoppping and had a wonderful supper. We of course stopped in Bangor on our way back to have supper at the Olive Garden.

Since those trips I haven’t really been doing much but planning the wedding and writing my thesis. Although Jake and I did start a Scuba diving class in January, so we can go diving on our honeymoon. Our check out dives are the end of March in St. Andrews, in the Bay of Fundy so it is going to be really cold. I hope be get to see some sea cucumbers and lobsters on our dive ;)

Anyway that is my update for now.

I will have Montreal and New Hampshire pics up soon :)

Well it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Things have been a little crazy. Since my last post i’ve been doing alot of traveling and working in the lab. I’m going to attempt a short recap over the next few posts.

We went to PEI for the Canada Day weekend and saw an outdoor concert with Matt Mays, Sam Roberts and the Tragically Hip. Also while in PEI we went to the Cavendish beach of course, had some Cows ice cream and had a wonderful lobster supper. We also did some deep sea fishing in North Rustico.

I will write about my Alaska trip in my next post.

Returned from Alaska “The Last Frontier!”

Filed under: General Issues, Trips — olivia at 8:37 am on Friday, June 23, 2006

Well I’ve returned from my trip to Alaska for the NABS conference. The conference went really well, went to some really interesting talks and some not so great ones. My poster presentation went really well once I got to use to it, alot of people liked it.

Alaska is so beautiful if you ever get a chance to go I highly recommend it. There are snow capped mountains all around Anchorage. The drive from Anchorage to Seward is just amazing one of the most scenic drives I’ve ever been on. I’ve done alot of travelling and believe Coldplay got it right in the song “Don’t Panic.”

And we live in a beautiful world,
Yeah we do, yeah we do,
We live in a beautiful world
.”

I’ll write more about my sightseeing in Alaska once the conference was done after I give my huge news. I returned at 1am wednesday morning and went to bed after being awake for like 36 hours, because I can’t sleep on planes well.

The next morning Jake kept trying to wake me up, once I was semi- awake on the couch he presented me with a dozen long stem red roses. He then told me how much he had missed me and how he wanted to be with me forever and that he wanted to make a life with me and that it should start right now.

Jake then proceeded to get down on one knee and pulled my gorgeous ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him!!!! I strated to cry, hug and kiss him!!! I eventually said “YES YES YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!” To which he replied “You finally said yes, I wasn’t sure for a minute.”

So Jake and I are ENGAGED and are going to be MARRIED next August. We are both really excited and happy, so are our families.
A very happy Olivia!! :)

I made it!!

Well after 22 hours of traveling i’ve made it to Anchorage. Where it is only dark for like 4 hours at night, the sun was only setting at 11:30pm when we landed. I’m very tired, but it is extremely beautiful here. We flew over the rockies on our way to Seattle was really amazing. Gotta go,  will post more later.

Bye

Davinici Code

Filed under: General Issues — olivia at 6:49 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2006

Monday night we went with Emily and Nick to see the Davinici code. I thought it was great and didn’t deserve all the bad revues it has received. It wasn’t as good as the book, but no movie ever is. It skipped a lot of the book, but it couldn’t really cover it all or the movie would be crazy long, as it was already 2 1/2 hours.

I was looking through pics on my computer and found some pictures from our wonderful sea Kayaking experience last July in the Bay of Fundy. We started at the pool in the park and started paddling up along the coast towards Point Wolfe. We were suppose to be in singles, but the wind was going to be high so they made us all get in double kayaks, which I’m glad they did.

The wind came up like crazy and then the waves came. We were beside these rock cliffs when two older gentleman’s kayak flipped. The guides were trying like crazy to get them back in and were screaming at us to turn around and head back to the previous beach, which was the Herring Cove Beach. We were suppose to go a lot farther down the coast to a secluded beach for lunch and then paddle back and go under the bridge in alma to the estuary area.

So we all fought our way back through the waves to the beach and waited for the guides and the others to come. The whole time waves were going over the kayak and my arms were wet. I thought we were going to be swept into the cliff a bunch of times. After a nice rest and some lunch we started the daunting task of kayaking back to Alma. We had to fight the wind the whole way back, I was exhausted and thought we’d never make it, but we preserved and made it.

What a day! A great challenge, but definitely worth it.

Fundy

Filed under: Trips — olivia at 8:16 am on Friday, May 19, 2006

Last weekend Jake and I went to Fundy National park and stayed in one of the chalets for our 5 year anniversary. It was a beautiful weekend, on saturday when we were hiking it was so hot and sunny.

We went to the otherside of the park, where the forty- five river and covered bridge is. When I did my field course in Fundy 2 years agao we did work there, so I wanted to show Jake the nice waterfall. We then went and hiked a new trail for us “Blackhole” it was super steep at the end and came out at the Upper Salmon River. We went back to the chalet and then into Alma for a nice supper at the tides restuarant.

On sunday we met Craig and Stephanie in salisbury and proceeded on to the Costco. On our way we all had some yummy big stop pie. Jake and I then drove to SJ to see our moms on Mothers Day and then drove back to good old freddy.

It was a great weekend!

Life

Filed under: General Issues — olivia at 10:11 am on Saturday, May 6, 2006

I just read a quote today that has really stuck with me:

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.”

I know life is short and we should appreciate everyday, but certain things in life really make you realize it more.  I guess all of it started for me after my Dad died.  Weeks after it kind of hit that I could be gone at any moment without ever having done all things I want to. My Dad kept saying all things he wanted to do when he retired, but he never made it. Life and obligations get in the way, but there has to be some kind of happy medium. So I’m going to try to live my life in the now, not putting things off for the future whenever possible.

See I’ve always had this list of things I want to do in my life and I’ve started to do them and am going to continue, no point waiting if it can be done now. I just wish my Dad had the same realization and chances that I have.
